At the Fleet Europe Awards 2016 in Barcelona, Carlo Bertolini of Chiesi Farmaceutici was celebrated as 2016 Fleet Manager of the Year Medium Fleet. As Fleet Manager Europe, Carlo Bertolini uses a self-developed 7 Golden Rules strategy for the 1,600-vehicle fleet of Chiesi in Europe. This strategy includes a model selection based on TCO; with max CO2 cap of 120 g for the field force; the set-up of 3 generalist and 2 premium brands per country; the competition between at least 2 leasing companies per country; a fixed 48-months contract duration; a driver reclaim programme for end of contract damages and the interdiction of SUVs. This holistic but pragmatic fleet view will lead to a cost reduction of at least 9%. Carlo Bertolini has successfully introduced a fit for purpose fleet approach and this on a European level. Next to that, Carlo Bertolini embraces innovation with pilots and initiatives in car sharing, mobility, and the introduction of a corporate taxi. The award was handed out by Adrian Porter, Director Fleet Sales and Remarketing at Hyundai Motor Europe.
Runner-up in this category was Wojciech Regucki, EMEA Fleet Manager at AbbVie. He has implemented a centralised TCO-driven fleet approach with a focus on strict TCO control, based on reference car models with low CO2-emission, and this in more than 30 countries. The AbbVie CO2-capping has a maximum of 115 g/km for sales reps to a maximum of 145 g/CO2 for General Management. Key in the fleet management of AbbVie is the respect for long-term relationships with partners and suppliers. Wojciech has shown a willingness to drive the fleet programme forward, with targets and results regarding Green and Safety elements. He got the award from Knut Krösche and Jochen Schmitz from Volkswagen Financial Services AG.
